Therapy Process & Approach

What happens in our first sesion?
During our first meeting, we will talk about what brings you in and what you hope to achieve in therapy. This time also helps you see if you feel comfortable working with me.
Therapy Approach
Culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, attachment-based, integrative approach—body-centred somatic and expressive art therapy
Confidentiality
While confidentiality is the foundation of my practice, there are limits based on ethical and legal mandates, such as the risk of harm to the client or others.
Do I have to talk about my trauma?
No, you don't need to relive trauma or disclose the specifics of painful memories, as this can lead to retraumatization. Healing starts with establishing safety and stability, allowing you to develop coping skills to manage uncomfortable emotions safely.
What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy, developed by Peter Levine, is a mind and body approach that combines talk therapy with techniques to facilitate the processing and release of trapped emotions. (breathing exercise, movement, mindfulness and guided mindfulness practice to help clients become more present in their body)
What is Expressive Art Therapy?
Integrative method that engages the “whole person in the therapeutic process”  Expressive art therapy draws inspiration from various art forms, including movement, drawing, painting, etc., depending on the individuals' needs.  Previous experience is not necessary. It’s not about creating a pretty or perfect picture.
Do you diagnose Mental Health conditions?
No, psychotherapists are not authorised to diagnose mental health conditions.  Medical doctors, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and family doctors, are authorised to diagnose any mental health conditions.
Do you prescribe medications?
No, psychotherapists don’t prescribe medication. Medical doctors, including psychiatrists, are authorized to prescribe appropriate medications.
Are sessions covered under workplace benefits?
Most insurance companies cover some sessions. Once I receive payment for the session, I will provide you with an electronic receipt. You can submit the invoice to your insurance for reimbursement.
